School Councils Why School Councils? Who are School Councils? What shall School Councils do? When and where shall School Councils meet? What to do first?

School Councils WHY? Bring communities and school together Solve difficult educational problems Improve academic achievement Bring parents into the process Create understanding and mutual respect Share ideas for school improvement

School Councils WHO? 7 Members: Principal, 4 parents, 2 teachers 2 year term: July through June

School Councils WHAT? Withdraw a member due to inactivity Distribute school awards School Improvement Receive reports on achievement and progress

School Councils WHEN AND WHERE? Quarterly meetings at the school Better meeting times than 5:00 p.m.??
