Lifelong Learning UK We’re an employer-led body with one agenda — to ensure the lifelong learning workforce is the best it can be. We are one of 25 Sector Skills Councils, and we are responsible for supporting the lifelong learning workforce by: developing and raising standards; providing labour market intelligence; engaging our employers; and delivering innovative projects. 2

The Catalyst Programme

The Catalyst Programme Catalyst comprises four major sub-programmes which will support further education (FE) providers in taking a structured approach to the development of leaders and managers and in ensuring teachers, tutors and trainers keep their vocational and subject specialist skills up-to-date. This will be achieved by building strong relationships between FE sector employers and businesses. Further education sector FE colleges, adult and community learning, work based learning

Overview £30M DIUS funded programme Pilot programme April 2007 - March 2010 Outputs 1,400 teachers, trainers and tutors complete vocational up-skilling programme – Business Interchange 300 people recruited into hard to fill vacancies in the sector – Pass on Your Skills 210 managers recruited and fast tracked through leadership and management development programme – Make a Difference Recruitment resource to assist the sector to recruit senior leaders – Business Talent

The Catalyst Programme: Developing Teachers Leaders and Managers Pass on Your Skills Business Interchange Make a Difference Business Talent Toolkit Catalyst comprises four major sub-programmes which will support further education (FE) providers in taking a structured approach to the development of leaders and managers and in ensuring teachers, tutors and trainers keep their vocational and subject specialist skills up-to-date. Pass On Your Skills Assisting providers to recruit into “hard to fill” vacancies Priority skills areas: Engineering Retail & Commercial Health & social care Construction & the Built Environment Science Technology, Engineering and Maths Skills for Life PTLLS courses currently filled with 332 participants being delivered by colleges, work based learning and adult and community learning providers across England 700+ Candidates available on www.passonyourskills.com New recruitment campaign starting March 2009 Additional notes: 224 Health & Social Care 108 Engineering Oversubscription of potentially 2,179 illegible applicants Matching Process agreed with ALP & AoC as to how we can give Learning Providers access to these candidates. Database due to be live end of September 2008 Revised Project Design Devised Currently Going to Catalyst Board New programme to be designed and ready for Delivery January 2009

Business Interchange Enables teachers, tutors and trainers in the FE sector to update their industry related skills through a variety of learning experiences Successful major pilot programme delivered more than 500 FE sector “business exchanges” Working in partnership with the Institute for Learning and the Learning & Skills Improvement Service Funding of £1,000 per participant available up to 15 participants per provider – 31st March 2009 Registrations of interest to www.businessinterchange.org

Make a Difference National campaign to attract and develop 210 graduate calibre individuals into the sector Current model recruits individuals to a talent pool and encourages the sector to include candidates in their recruitment process. Currently re-designing the programme. New model aims to recruit to vacancy and provides support mechanisms including assessment centre support to providers Candidates applying for current management vacancies Once selected, successful candidates benefit from a fully funded 12-month leadership development programme
