Do Nothing We’ve never had a switch with all ports active at once Some switches have enough float that this is a reasonable option
Replace 8-port GigE Several switches have 8-port GigE cards in slot 3. Replace these with 48-port 10/100/1000 cards. Net gain of 40 ports. In FL3, requires replacement of fiber gige FL1-2037A already copper.
Install 96-port cards Provides a path to potentially double the number of ports. Difficult to cable. Ports are 10/100 only. Do we want to invest in more 10/100 when 10/100/1000 is where we are going?
Install 6513 Provides 4 additional slots Requires extensive downtime Fairly expensive option. Usually ends up providing too much capacity.
Remove a Supervisor FL2-2104 has no available slots Hard to predict exactly, but it was tight before HAO moved. May become constrained again as others move into HAO’s old space. Failure rate on Supervisors high enough that this isn’t a serious option.
