Skim THIEVES BEFORE you begin reading, look over the text quickly to get a sense of what the text will be about. Look for organization, topic sentences, repeated words

Read Closely DURING reading, read closely to learn what the main ideas are. Look for key points, supporting details

Scan AFTER reading, run your eyes over the text to find answers to questions, to clarify, or to find supporting details. Look for particular words or ideas
