Chapter 5 Essay Objective Write a 3-5 paragraph PARCC Research Simulation Task response, using 3 of the 7 characteristics of a civilization we discussed, to explain how Ancient Sumer was a civilization. Choose 2 sources with a quote from each (the textbook, The Sumerian Times Reading, and History of a Civilization Video) provided to you in order to cite evidence to support.

Example of Introduction Paragraph Around 3500 B.C.E, there was a civilization located in southern Mesopotamia known as Sumer. By settling in the Fertile Crescent, the city-states of Sumer advanced over time into one of the first great civilizations. Historians question whether Sumer was a civilization but I believe Sumer was a civilization because it created a stable food supply, formed a system of government, and created a social structure.
