DEFINITIONS OF TERMS GUIDANCE - is the help given by a person to another in making intelligent choices ,judgments and adjustments that are individually and socially desirable. COUNSELING - is the art of helping other help themselves.

DEFINITIONS OF TERMS GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING - is the assistance given or offered to people either as an individual or as a group for self understanding, self actualization and self direction.

OBJECTIVES a. To aid the counselee to grow in his independence and ability to be responsible for himself. b. To help the individual discover his needs to assess his potentialities gradually to develop, life goals that are individually satisfying and socially desirable.

COMMON CAUSES OF COUNSELING FAILURE 1. Failure to listen. 2. Failure to observe the non- verbal effort of the counselee, such as action, gestures and tone of voice. 3. Failure to use the non-verbal communications tools effectively.

COUNSELING APPROACHES B. NON-DIRECTIVE APPROACH Counselee centered Counselee works out solutions to his problem through personal insight judgment and realization of facts. Counselee develops self-understanding.

COUNSELING APPROACHES C. ECLECTIC APPROACH. - Combination of directive and non-directive approach. - Selecting from different systems, doctrines of sources. - Provide adjustments for counselor and counselee to participate in defining, analyzing and solving the problem. - Counselee is responsible for planning his life and his own decisions, but he may initially needs from the counselor. - Technique involves here to follow the problem solving process.
