Presentation transcript:

Look who it is! Ask the children if they recognise the characters…have they been in their assemblies before? Introduce cat, mouse, dog. In last year’s assembly mouse was having some problems at lunch time and dog was calling him names. We looked at what mouse could do & how Cat and the teacher helped. Last year AB week was ‘Stop & think, words can hurt This year is called ‘We’re better without bullying’. When someone is being bullied it can stop them joining in, going to places & doing things they wanted to do…..

How many of you take part in clubs…after school clubs or clubs away from school? Who is in a football team/club? Basket ball Trampolining or gym club? Is it fun? Do you have friends there? Is it something you are getting better at? (practice, practice, practice)

Mouse really likes doing gymnastics He wants to become one of the best ….. … & dreams about competing at the Olympics one day …he is a really good gymnast!

My friend Rat is much better & stronger than you But Dog starts teasing Mouse about Gymnastics & tells mouse he isn’t very good at it. He says his friend Rat is much better Mouse finds Rat a bit scary and after a while he stops looking forward to going to gymnastics. Make the point to the children….you can be bullied for all sorts of reasons……sometimes people are picked on for being really good at something…sometimes it can be for not being very good at something!!

Mouse started to worry about going to gymnastics Mouse was feeling sad & worried about going to gymnastics First he didn’t go as his said he had a head ache, the next week he told his mum he had eaten too much cheese & had tummy ache

Cat saw that mouse was looking sad Hey Mouse …are you ok? Why haven’t you been at gym club? I’m not sure if I want to go anymore Why not…you are so good at it ? Mouse told Cat that dog had been teasing him & picking on him….

Cat talked to Mouse about his worries What will Dog & Rat do if I win the next competition? .......I’m feeling scared. Don’t let them stop you doing something you enjoy……..

Did you know that Tom Daley was bullied at school after the Beijing Olympics in 2008?

He didn’t let this put him off & he went on to win a bronze medal at London 2012 Olympics

…and in the weeks before the Olympics Rebecca Adlington had unkind comments posted about her on the internet

…she went on to win a bronze medal in her 400m free style event.

Rebecca was really brave and talked about her stand against the cyber bullies .

…and we have lots of amazing paralympians like Ellie Simmonds, Jonnie Peacock and Sarah Storey who have had to overcome lots of barriers

…Sarah won 5 Olympic gold medals in swimming before taking up cycling & becoming a gold medallist in that too! Sarah was bullied at school after winning medals at the 2008 Olympics but she didn’t let that stop her….

In a survey by ‘beatbullying’ lots of children said that bullying made them give up their interests. Are you going to give up mouse . . . or ask for help & follow your dream? Our successful Olympians and Paralympians have been determined and not been put off by other people.

Ignore Dog and walk away What could Mouse do? Ignore Dog and walk away Tell someone, ask for help Tell Dog to stop

“Always remember CAT”! Check Ask Tell Remember CAT When you see someone looking sad: Check if they are ok Ask if you can help or if it is safe Ask others to stop. Tell an adult you trust Tell

Check that the person is ok Ask how you can help & Ask the bullies to stop if it is safe to Tell an adult that you trust

Cat helped Mouse to talk to a teacher about the bullying It’s not my fault! Mouse found it helped when he talked about what had been happening & how it made him feel The teacher made him realise that it wasn’t his fault & he hadn’t done anything wrong. The teacher said she would be talking to Dog about his behaviour….

Teacher talked to Dog about the bullying Dog hadn’t realised how much he was upsetting mouse and that it had stopped him going to gym club. He was sorry for being unkind….Dog had to miss playtime that week and said sorry to Mouse for the things he had done.

Mouse went back to gym club…. …He carried on working on his dream of being an Olympic gymnast…

Remember said Dog…… Find your courage , ALWAYS speak out and get help if you are being bullied. Don’t forget….everyone has the right to join in, no matter what barriers they may face.

“We’re better without Bullying”.
