Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Form 4.1 Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Form Given the graph of a linear function, how can you write an equation of the line? Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form.

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Remember the slope-intercept form 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏. Write an equation of each line with the given slope and y-intercept. Slope =−3; y-intercept = 1 2 𝑚=−3 𝑏= 1 2 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏 𝑦=−3𝑥+ 1 2 Slope =0; y-intercept =−2 𝑚=0 𝑏=−2 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏 𝑦=0𝑥−2 𝑦=−2

You Try!! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Remember the slope-intercept form 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏. Write an equation of each line with the given slope and y-intercept. Slope = 2 3 ; y-intercept =0 𝑚= 2 3 𝑏=0 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏 𝑦= 2 3 𝑥+0 𝑦= 2 3 𝑥 Slope =3; y-intercept =−1 𝑦=3𝑥−1

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line in slope-intercept form. Can you identify the y-intercept and the slope from the graph? y-intercept =−3 Slope = 𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑟𝑢𝑛 𝑦= 3 2 𝑥−3 run =4 = 6 4 = 3 2 rise =6

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line in slope-intercept form. Can you identify the y-intercept and the slope from the graph? y-intercept =2 Slope =− 3 4 𝑦=− 3 4 𝑥+2 rise =−3 run =4

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. You Try!! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line in slope-intercept form. y-intercept =−2 Slope = 4 4 =1 𝑦=𝑥−2 run =4 rise =4

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. You Try!! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line in slope-intercept form. y-intercept =−1 Slope =− 1 3 𝑦=− 1 3 𝑥−1 rise =−1 run =3

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line that passes through the given points. −3,5 ,(0,−1) Find the slope and y-intercept. (−3,5) − (0,−1) + (0,+1) −3 6 ∆𝑥 ∆𝑦 𝑚= 6 −3 =−2 y-intercept is where 𝑥=0 y-intercept =−1 𝑦=−2𝑥−1

Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line that passes through the given points. 0,−5 ,(8,−5) Find the slope and y-intercept. 0,−5 − (8,−5) y-intercept is where 𝑥=0 y-intercept =−5 𝑦=0𝑥−5 𝑦=−5 + (−8,+5) −8 0 ∆𝑥 ∆𝑦 𝑚= 0 −8 =0

You Try!! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write an equation of each line that passes through the given points. 0,2 ,(4,10) Find the slope and y-intercept. 0, 2 − (4,10) y-intercept is where 𝑥=0 y-intercept =2 𝑦=2𝑥+2 0, 2 + (−4,−10) −4 −8 ∆𝑥 ∆𝑦 𝑚= −8 −4 =2

You Try!! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. Write a linear function g with the values 𝑔 0 =9 and 𝑔 8 =7. So what are the points? 0,9 ,(8,7) 0,9 − (8,7) y-intercept =9 𝑔(𝑥)=− 1 4 𝑥+9 −8 2 ∆𝑥 ∆𝑦 𝑚= 2 −8 =− 1 4

So let’s review! Students will be able to write equations in slope-intercept form. You need to be able to write the equation given the slope and y-intercept. Plug the information into the equation You need to be able to write the equation given the graph. Identify the y-intercept Find the slope You need to be able to write the equation given two points.
