Presentation transcript:

Lesson 4-6 Slope-Intercept Form Obj: The student will be able to 1) Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form 2) Graph a line using slope-intercept form HWK: p 272 14-26 all

Graph the line with the given slope and y-intercept Ex 1) slope = -2 y-intercept of 4 Ex 2) slope = 2 3 y-intercept of -1

Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation If a line has a slope m and a y-intercept b then the line can be described by the equation y = mx + b

Write the equation that describes each line in slope-intercept form Ex 3) slope = 1 3 y- intercept = 6 Ex 4) slope = 0 y-intercept = -5

Ex 5)

Ex 6) slope = 4 passing through (2, 5) Ex 7) slope = 8 passing through (-3, 1)

Write each equation in slope-intercept form. Then graph the equation. Ex 8) y = 4x – 3 Ex 9) 3x + 2y = 8

Ex 10) 6x + 2y = 10

Ex 11) To rent a van, a moving company charges $30 plus $0.50 per mile. The cost as a function of the number of miles driven is shown in the graph. Write an equation that represents the cost as a function of the number of miles. b) Identify the slope and y-intercept and describe their meaning. c) Find the cost of the van for 150 miles.
