The Crust The crust is the outer layer of the Earth, but also the thinnest layer. There are two different types of crust. These are the oceanic and continental crust. The oceanic is made out of iron, oxygen, silicon, magnesium and aluminum. The continental crust is made up of granite, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Click Here To Go Back to Main Menu

The Mantle The mantle is the layer between the crust and the outer core. Some scientist say that the mantle is made up of two parts, the upper and lower mantle. The lower mantle is solid, while the upper mantle is both liquid and solid. The mantle is made out of iron, oxygen, silicon, magnesium and aluminum. Click Here To Go Back to Main Menu

The Outer Core Inside of the mantle is the outer core. The outer core is mostly made of iron and is about 10,800 degrees Fahrenheit. The outer core is 3200 miles under the earth’s crust. The outer core is made up of mostly of liquid iron and nickel. The movement of the metals creates our planet’s magnetic field. Click Here To Go Back to Main Menu

The Inner Core The inner core is made up of solid iron and nickel. It is solid because of all of the pressure surrounding it. The temperature is estimated to be between 4,950 and 8,540 degree Fahrenheit. Click Here To Go Back to Main Menu
