Learning Goal: Can I define what respect is, what it looks like in a school, and how to have a disagreement respectfully in a school?

Learning Goal: In your own words fill in the following sentence. The learning goal for today is ________________________.

Define Respect Definition of respect: Respect means treating others with consideration and kindness and recognizing the value of people, property, and environment. Respect means treating others as you want to be treated.

What does respect mean in your own words? Reflection What does respect mean in your own words?

Respect looks like… Think about when you have a job: Work relations become more manageable when employees treat everyone the way they would like to be treated. Respect between employers, employees, and clients, help develop positive relationships and creates a happier, more productive environment.

Split into two groups and reflect on the pervious slide: Reflection Split into two groups and reflect on the pervious slide: Group A: How would you or someone you know show respect for your teacher? Give at least one example. Group B: How would you treat your peers or classmates with respect? Give at least one example.

Disagreements Consider the following: Disagreements in the workplace will happen occasionally. With respect and thoughtful interaction disagreements can be managed effectively. Has someone ever disrespected you, or someone you know at school during a disagreement?

Reflection Split into two groups and reflect on the pervious slide: Group A: What did you or someone you know think about the situation? Group B: What was the consequence of that action for you and for the person who exhibited a lack of respect?

Ending Thoughts Respect and disrespect are going to happen. You may not always be treated respectfully 100% of the time. Walking away from a disrespectful situation isn’t easy but with friend and peer help it can happen.
