Paul’s Exhortation The first part of chapter four is an exhortation to holiness. Paul exhorted them to: Abstain from fornication; Not defraud his brother; Mind their affairs; Work with his hands; Be honest with all men.

Hope Without Sorrow In this epistle, Paul gives a very explicit explanation about the coming of the Lord, which is the hope of the Church. Each chapter closes with a statement about the Lord's return and its meaning to the child of God. These statements link the return of Jesus to: Salvation Service Sanctification Comfort Separation

Hope Without Sorrow Paul states facts about the Lord's return for His church: It is a comforting hope for the bereaved. Those who have died in the Lord will be caught up first, and then the living saints will be ruptured. Accompanying the return of the Lord, there will be a shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God.

Hope Without Sorrow Understand the following: The word "prevent," verse 15, should read "precede.” The expression "sleep in Jesus" refers to a conscious rest in the Lord. See II Corinthians 5:6-8. The verb "to meet" as used in verse 17 is the same as the verb "to meet" used in Acts 28:15.

Not Appointed To Wrath "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Thessalonians 5:9). After the rapture of the church, the Day of the Lord will take place, which will include the Great Tribulation and Armageddon.

Ministry To Be Esteemed "And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; and to esteem them very highly in love for their works sake. And be at peace among yourselves" (I Thessalonians 5:12-13). It is essential that God's people esteem and love the ministry who admonishes them and through teaching helps them to be ready for the Lord's return.

Paul’s Final Exhortation I Thessalonians 5:14-22 The "feeble minded," verse 14, is the faint hearted. The sins against the Holy Spirit - namely quenching and despising. They were exhorted to discern between the true and the false and to avoid even the appearance of wrongdoing.

Entire Sanctification "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Thessalonians 5:23). Salvation is for the whole man. It is impossible to be sanctified body, soul and spirit and to be found blameless when Jesus returns.
