Understanding Numbers Sequencing Dr Deborah Bunker Petroc

Topic Aims Level Method Equipment Duration Understanding Numbers – Sequencing: Mathematics Aims This resource has been developed to support learners to develop their functional Mathematics skills whilst studying Chemistry programmes. With the introduction of Study Programmes, with all teachers having the responsibility of developing learners’ English, Mathematics and Employability skills, resources such as this are very transfer ably used by all.  The resource promotes active learning. Learners with no calculator work out the solution to the problem that they are presented with on a card developing their mental arithmetic ability. The learners then sequence themselves in order with other learners in the class.  The teacher can change the value of ‘n’ so that a number of ‘games’ can be played and learners can swop cards to ensure that they are familiar with how to calculate the answer to a range of different problems. Learners develop an understanding of number and size which is extremely useful within Chemistry programmes. Level Level 2, Level 3 Method Paper Slides to be printed to use as cards Equipment Paper/Worksheets Duration 10-20 Minutes
