2 Topic 21 st Century Discussion Cards Aims A resource that is designed to stimulate discussion with regards to identifying and developing key STEM employability skills. What are the key employability skills as highlighted through annual CBI reports? What do staff and learners understand by the listed skill terms? How could staff and learners work in collaborative partnership to develop the identified key employability skills? This resource is designed to enable discussion to take place, to allow learners to be able to identify and define the key employability skills whilst developing an understanding of why it is important to acquire these skills to enable effective progression to take place. 5 Skills Focus for the 21 st Century SkillsDescriptors Creativity The skills to identify and resolve problems, design new processes or products, contribute original ideas, vision and add value Digital Literacy The skill to use and apply digital media and in particular be comfortable and familiar with the major functions of Microsoft Office. Communication The skills to write clear analytical reports, apply standard English correctly and present confidently. Numeracy The skills to read, interpret, generate and present data and familiarity with mathematical concepts. Interpersonal The skills to interact well with others, work in teams, display a positive attitude, persuade and be alert to social and cultural differences. Intrapersonal The skills to self-assess, metacognition, reflect, set and manage targets, work to deadlines and know own limitations. Independent The skills to independently research and to carry forward own learning and personal development, high personal motivation.
