North Korea: A Sustainable System? AP Human Geography Political Organization of Space Unit

For today, 01/25 Get out your “Inside North Korea” Video Guide AND “Secret State of North Korea” Post Viewing Questions Take out a sheet of paper and label it “North Korea: A Sustainable System?” http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2725415/Nasa-satellite-images-North-Korea-secretive-space.html

North Korea: An Unsustainable System? In 2009, cell phones arrived in North Korea. The phones can only be used to make calls inside the country unless modified to make calls internationally, a very serious crime. There is an awareness and ability for the population to communicate instantaneously, which was never there before. North Korea went from 0-1 million cell phone registrations in 3 years, 1-2 million took 1 year, and 2-3 million took about 6 months. Many would argue the concrete wall that has isolated North Korea’s people is becoming more porous. Will North Korea’s modernization and information flow lead to a transformation of society? Is the system as it stands unsustainable?

Your Assignment: Due Friday, 1/27 (1.) Pass around stapler and combine: 1. “Inside North Korea” Video Guide 2. “Secret State of North Korea” Post Viewing Questions 3. Sustainable System Response (what you just did ) (2.) Read about Kimdergarden (3.) Respond about world options on North Korea (last page of article) (4.) Take 2 words from the Vocab Requirements and: 1. Define it 2. Discuss (aka explain) how it connects to North Korea (can’t use list ) ** Don’t forget about the Vocab & Map Exam on Friday **
