Richard Nixon 1969-1974- 37th President Escalated Vietnam but eventually talked a ceasefire with Northern Vietnam Watergate Scandal- “I am not a crook” Resigned from office Economic Stabilization Act of 1970- Set wages and prices Large scale integration of public schools in the South

Gerald Ford 1974-1977, 38th President Granted Nixon a full pardon Tried to curb inflation Tried to maintain American prestige after the collapse of Cambodia and South Vietnam

Jimmy Carter 1977-1981 Worked to fight inflation and unemployment Expanded the national park system to include part of Alaska Created a national energy policy by controlling petroleum prices American hostages were taken in Iran for 18 months. The day that Carter left office, the hostages were released.

Ronald Reagan 1981-1989 Got into politics after being an actor in films Worked to increase economic growth, slow down inflation, increase employment and make national defense stronger He tried to improve relations with Gorbachev, the SU leader Negotiated a treaty to eliminate nuclear missiles
