Flowers for Algernon Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions In groups of 4, answer the following questions on a single sheet of paper with all group members’ names at the top. What kind of childhood do you imagine Charlie had? How can you tell? Why do you think Charlie was so motivated to be smart? Hilda, one of Charlie’s nurses, expresses concerns after his surgery. What is she worried about? Dr. Strauss tells Charlie, “The more intelligent you become, the more problems you’ll have, Charlie,” (47). What does he mean? Do you think he is right? Be prepared to share your groups’ responses to these questions with the rest of the class.
