Use the information GIVEN to find the information NEEDED Missing Information Sometimes, the ratio given in a problem does not solve the problem directly. If this is the case, you must: Step 1) Step 2) Step 3) 1. The ratio of men to all students in the class is 4:9. Of the 45 students in the class, how many are women? 2. There were 5 dogs for every 3 cats in the pet store. Out of 56 cats and dogs in the store, how many were cats? 3. The local car dealer sells both foreign and domestic cars. Last month, the dealer sold 5 domestic cars for every 2 foreign cars that were sold. If 21 cars were sold, how many were domestic? Use the information GIVEN to find the information NEEDED Use the NEEDED information to write a ratio and proportion Make sure you answer the question asked (use labels)

How many units are expected to be without defects in a run of 35,000? 4. At a manufacturing company, 56 units are defective out of 10,000 units made. How many units are expected to be without defects in a run of 35,000? 5. Seven out of 10 workers at Zip Company took the day after Thanksgiving off to go shopping. If 1,500 work at the Zip Company, how many people took the day off? 6. How many people did NOT take the day off? (see problem number 5) 7. Of every 800 parts manufactured at Jake’s Parts Supply, 3 do not pass inspection. At the end of the day, 63 parts did not pass inspection. How many parts passed inspection that day?
