Presentation transcript:

“Then they would give the money to each as any had need” Acts 4:35

What is it? A resource for churches and charities serving those in need in their local community A website connecting those in need and those who want to help, protecting anonymity and confidentiality An opportunity to provide practical help for specific items in a simple way

Why was it set up? Recognition of donor fatigue – people want their money to count. Acts 435 provides direct giving Belief that a small gift can make a big difference in moments of crisis A contribution – not the answer Provision for unusual items, small items given to quickly

Key Statistics 98% of requests met in full Over 9,300 people helped since charity launched in 2010 Over £900,000 gone directly to help those in need Over 200 participating churches and charities

Stories I is a widow with a 10 year old son was referred to us by a local Food Bank. After having to move from a furnished flat to an empty housing association one she needed almost everything. Work in Cornwall is seasonal so she only had 12 hours work a week in winter. We had just been given a clean cooker so we took it to her. She had 2 mattresses, a table and 2 chairs in the flat. We posted 3 requests on the Acts435 website for essentials. They were met in a week. At the same time we heard about Hidden Help, run by a lady who collected unwanted household items for families in need. For minimal cost, we were able to get her a fridge, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, beds, a sofa and curtains. There was enough money left from the donations for her to carpet the 2 bedrooms. She could not believe strangers would help her get a "pretty home" in 2 weeks.
