Thanksgiving 1: What Is Thanksgiving? An American Holiday

There was a religious group in England.

Some decided to leave England.

They left England by ship.

There were two ships: the Speedwell...

...and the Mayflower.

Because of a storm...

the Speedwell returned to England.

The Mayflower crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

The Mayflower arrived in America in 1620.

Because it was already December...

It was cold.

It was late in the year.

Because it was December...

...it was too late to plant.

Because it was late in the year...

...it was too late to harvest.

How many ships did the Pilgrims leave in?

Two.

How many crossed the Atlantic Ocean?

Just one.

The Mayflower.

What happened to the Speedwell?

The Speedwell met a storm.

It returned to England.
