Parts of Maps

1.Map Title: Tells what/where a map shows.

2. Map Symbols: Symbols show important information on a map like features, capitals, cities etc.

3. Map Legend/Key: Identifies symbols on a map.

4. Map Scale: Shows distances on a map

5.Map Grid: Organizes space on a map.

6. Compass Rose: A feature on a map that shows directions 6. Compass Rose: A feature on a map that shows directions. It shows north, south, east, or west.

Parts of Maps Summary The notes are about the parts of maps. We looked at map legends, symbols, titles, grids, scales and a compass rose. We learned why they are useful and how each part is important to the entire map.
