Chocolate on the Big Screen + Chocolate on the Big Screen At The Chocolate Museum, we often focus on chocolate’s role in religion, cultures, or the chocolate-producing industry. However, chocolate isn’t all serious business. While of course chocolate tastes delicious to many people, chocolate is also quite often used to entertain us. A quick peek at chocolate in the movies The Chocolate Museum

How Movies Use Chocolate As an occupation Chocolat As a metafor Like Water for Chocolate As a plot device Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory As a study of our culture In Search of the Heart of Chocolate Chocolate has been used in movies in a variety of ways. In some cases, as in the movie Chocolat, a character makes chocolate for a living. In others, chocolate is a metaphor for a feeling or mood; in the movie Like Water for Chocolate, chocolate is central to a romantic relationship. Movies have even included chocolate as a way of advancing the plot, as with the race to find a chocolate bar containing a golden ticket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Chocolate has also been the focus of at least one documentary, In Search of the Heart of Chocolate, to help us study the phenomenon of chocolate as a passion in itself. The Chocolate Museum

Chocolate Symbolism Chocolate is often used in movies as a symbol of: Indulgence or Excess Passion Romance Fun or Celebration Comfort Chocolate has traditionally been associated with different feelings and moods in the cultures of the United States. Sometimes overindulgence in chocolate is a symbol of excess. Chocolate, perhaps because of its rich sweetness, has often been linked with passion and romance. Chocolate is featured in celebrations, such as Valentine’s Day and Easter, and is also an essential form of comfort food, particularly during cooler months. The Chocolate Museum

A Chocolate Movie Assortment Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) Like Water for Chocolate (1992) Chocolat (2000) Lezioni di Cioccolato (2007) In Search of the Heart of Chocolate (2008) Dripping in Chocolate (2012) Here are just some of the movies in which chocolate plays a key role.
