Presentation transcript:

The Parent Conference (PC) Pediatric Treatment Practica

Step 1 Determine the date of your conference. Usually held: during the last week of the quarter or finals week. on the day your supervisor usually observes Confirm with your supervisor what day/time works best!

Step 2 Inform the parent of the conference date and the last day of treatment. Sometime these dates do NOT coincide. You may have the parent conference on a day earlier in the week (due to supervisor scheduling) and then subsequently see the client for 1 or more sessions.

Step 2 Determine whether you will hold the PC at the beginning of the session or at the end. It is recommended that you start the PC at the beginning of the session just in case the conversation is long. Then you won’t risk having to stop the conversation short because your time is up.

Step 3 Determine whether your client will join the PC with you. If the child is older, it may be appropriate. If it is not appropriate, find someone to watch the child while you do the PC. If the child is very young, it may be possible to do the PC in the room with the child (just give the child something to do while you are talking).

Step 4 If you need to do the PC in a separate room from the child, look at Room Reservations and make sure you find a room.

Look at your Behavioral Objectives Step 5 Complete your end of quarter measures. Very Important: Look at your Behavioral Objectives Make sure you measure what you wrote in the Behavioral Objectives!

Step 6 Complete your Final Case Summary (FCS)

Step 7 Summarize the information in your FCS in a 1 – 2 page document. Use family-friendly language (avoid jargon!)

Step 7 Tables are helpful to show data. Charts/graphs are great, but not required.

Step 7 Creating a summary: Visit the Articulation and Language Unit website for examples of parent conference summaries: http://courses.washington.edu/sop/ArticLang/A_LHome.htm

Step 7 Here’s an example of a simple summary document (on website) 

Step 7 Another example (on website)

Step 8 Submit the Parent Conference document to the supervisor at least 24 hours prior to your parent conference for feedback.

Step 9 Once you have received feedback from your supervisor: Make changes Make at least 3 copies: 1 for you 1 for the parent 1 for the supervisor

Step 10 Confer with the supervisor regarding whether the supervisor will join you for the PC or whether the supervisor will watch from the booth.

Step 11 The PC generally does not take the entire session time. To bill and continue to accrue hours, do plan to do treatment with the client when the PC is completed.

And Never Forget… If you have more questions, ask your supervisor!
