Ernest Hemingway He was born in America, in Oak Park in 1899 and died in 1961.He wrote novels and short stories, but he was also a journalist. He took part in the First World War as driver of ARC. In Paris he met the poet Ezra Pound who was considered like a teacher and was looked up by Hemingway. He travelled around Europe like Italy, France, Spain. In 1953 he published his last novel “The Old Man and the Sea” and an year later he won the Nobel Price.

The Old Man And The Sea Genre: Novel Plot : The story is about an old fisherman ,Santiago, who has never taken fishes for 84 days. So the next day he decided to go to fish in the Gulf of Stream. After some hours his bait has been taken by a marlin, from this moment a struggle started. Characters : Santiago is a determined, stubborn, and brave old man. The Marlin is a big and beautiful fish. Meaning : The old fisherman refuses, despite his age, his condition and so decides to struggle the nature, the death. Both Santiago and the marlin have the same qualities :pride, honor, bravery and determination and both are subject to the same law: they must kill or be killed.
