Checkpoint - How Are You Doing? Physics 1A

Concepts To Learn How Is Heat Transferred? Evaluate ways in which heat is transferred in and out of our bodies, and ways to reduce it. Describe what thermal (infra-red) radiation is. Explain which types of surfaces are good emitters and absorbers of radiation. Explain the difference between conduction and convection. Identify factors which affect the rate at which heat is transferred.

Concepts To Learn Energy Efficient? Draw energy transfer diagrams for electrical devices and identify wasted energy. Calculate the energy efficiency of a device. Describe what makes a device ‘energy efficient’.

Concepts To Learn Generating and using electricity: Calculate energy transferred. Explain the function of transformers in the national grid. Describe how a power station produced electricity. Explain the benefits and problems with using renewable sources to generate electricity.

Skills To Practice To Practice Completing questions in order of difficulty Reading and understanding diagrams Investigation Skills Variables, Fair Testing, Reliability and Accuracy Reading and using a graph Using calculations Spotting the difference between an opinion and a piece of evidence Thinking about why there are some questions Science cannot answer!
