What is PARCC? Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a group of 12 states and the District of Columbia that have worked together with thousands of teachers and education experts to develop a modern set of learning tools that assess and measure what a student knows and can do.

May 14th – May Language Arts ELA/L Grade 3 75 3 Hours 45 Minutes Unit 1 Unit 2 Unit 3 Total Time For Non Field Test Schools   Grade 3 75 3 Hours 45 Minutes Grades 4 thru 5 90 4 Hours 30 Minutes Grades 6 thru 11 Math Mathematics Unit 1 Unit 2 Unit 3 Unit 4       Total Time Grades 3 thru 5 60 4 Hours Grades 6 thru 8 80 NA Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 90 4 Hours 30 Minutes

ELA The state summative English language arts/literacy tests are available in Grades 3-8 and high school. Students read and analyze passages from real texts — fiction and non-fiction — and sometimes watch video or listen to audio. They write, using what they’ve learned from the passages and multi-media to support their arguments. These skills are critically important for students in college and in the workplace.

MATH The annual summative math tests are available in Grades 3-8 and high school. Students solve multi-step math problems that require reasoning and address real-world situations. Students are required to reason mathematically, make sense of quantities and their relationships to solve real-world problems, and show their understanding. Many previous assessments focused mostly on rote procedure only

Technology Students will take the PARCC assessments on the COMPUTER. PARCC states understand that in the 21st century students need to have access to technology in the classroom throughout the year, not just at testing time, ensuring they are comfortable using the technology. The technology gives students independence and is more engaging, as it includes videos and interactive tools. Students are the drivers of their own testing experience which gives them confidence. PARCC is using Universal Design principles to make the new tests as accessible as possible to all students, including English learners and students with disabilities. Paper-and-pencil assessments will be available for those students who require them.

Preparing Our Students Practice sample tests in the classroom using Edulastic.com and other websites Keyboarding skills Technology Educator Daily computer use Teaching students how to use the Testing Tools

How You Can Support your Child Read a combination of fiction and non-fiction aloud or with your child. Look for subjects of interest – from sports heroes to dinosaurs. Discuss and “do” real life math with your child. Help him/her know basic math facts. Discuss the new tests with your child. Make sure he/she is not scared or anxious going into the new tests. Explain to your child that the tests will initially be more challenging. Tell your child to do his/her best on the test and that you are there to help every step of the way. After the test, review the results with your child. Bring the teacher into the discussion as needed. Provide a quiet, comfortable place for studying at home and make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast before a test. Above all, be positive and encouraging about the tests.
