Landforms

The Earth is not smooth and level.

It has a varied landscape!

It has large, mostly flat land called plains.

In some places on Earth, plains are called savannahs…

It also has large landforms that rise high up from the Earth called…

mountains!

How are hills… different from mountains?

Hills are smaller and more rounded than mountains.

Between the mountains, between the hills are…

Low areas of land called Valleys!

Sometimes mountains or hills have flat tops…

called plateaus.

A desert is an area of land that has very little water for plants and animals to use.

Over two-thirds of the Earth is covered by huge bodies of salt water called…

Oceans.

Land that is surrounded by water is called an island.

Natural moving streams of fresh water that flow across land into lakes, other rivers, or oceans are called…

rivers!

Can you guess what a large body of water surrounded by land is called?

Yes, a lake!

Land surrounded by water on just 3 sides is called…

a peninsula.

Whether from sea to shining sea,

north to south,

from mountain majesty,

to fruited plains…

Our world is a landscape of landforms.
