The Romantic Period. By April and Alfie.

Context. The Romantic Period was particularly interested in the mysterious & supernatural, this made it quite similar to the gothic genre, due to the fact that it also included themes of madness and death as well as extremes of passion. Why is it Romantic? It's not the current, standardised meaning of "romantic," with hearts and flowers and candlelight. The Romantic period in literature includes works that involve a lot of personal rather than universal ideas/beliefs/thoughts. Romanticism is emotional, hence "horror and melancholy," although there are other emotions, too.

What are they writing about? Authors during the Romantic Period wrote about: Their own and others inner feelings. Emotions. Imagination Literature of the Middle Ages.
