INQUIRY PROCESSES

1. EXPLORE QUESTIONS to be answered by inquiry Make up or form a question (Use what you KNOW is TRUE)

2. DESIGN an investigation Create a FAIR/VALID test or experiment

3. CONDUCT an investigation Observe, record, repeat (See what happens, write it down, do it again)

4. Collect & Review DATA using tools Your DATA can be numbers and/or words Your TOOLS can be a calculator, computer, chart, graph…etc.

5. Use EVIDENCE to develop ideas Use your own evidence and evidence from others

6. Consider EVIDENCE for explanations Look for patterns, relationships & similarities to explain your data

7. Seek ALTERNATIVE explanations Look for a different way to describe the collected evidence

8. Show EVIDENCE & reasons to OTHERS Do others agree with your findings?

9. Use MATHEMATICS for science inquiry Math is exact & accurate (Uses standard universal units)

questions in a systematic and VOCABULARY TERMS 55. INQUIRY PROCESS Method used by scientists to find answers to questions 38. SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY Process of investigating scientific questions in a systematic and reproducible manner
