Luke 8:26-39 26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. 38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

Demon Possessed Man- A Man In Need First venture into Gentile Country Markedly different territory Same Good News- Parable of Sower applicable in the Gentile World. Demoniac- not worn clothes or lived in a house in a long time. Lives in a cemetery (place of the dead). Driven into loneliness. Cuts himself; chained- Scared guards away- Pathetic existence. What do we do with such a pitiful individual. People- stay away from that man He had crossed boundaries of decency even in this Gentile area. He had lost any claim to status at all.

Luke 8- Jesus Changes People Storms- obedience to Christ Can cast you into a number of storms- “you will be hated of all men And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved. Sickness- Reality of sickness and the pain of death do not go away Demons- Satan does not go on vacation when Christ is in our life. Death- Death does not stop in the life of Christian- In all of these areas the Lord give us strength to overcome (1 Cor. 10:13- There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

In the Depths of Hopelessness Reduced to level of a wild animal. Hopeless. Confrontation between Christ and this man the man seeks Jesus out. V. 28- Jesus the Son of the Most High God- What do you want with me? Demon possessed man knows who Jesus is (James 2:19) They do what they do to directly confront Him but they know who He is and what power He has and that it is stronger than anything they can do. They know who He is and what he could do. Destruction was his only prospect at this point.

Jesus Is Our Lord and Savior. They realize Christ has the power to consign them to the abyss- No Doubt Christ does do this with them. The man’s personality is so lost the demons speak for him but he still has ability to present himself to Christ. What is your name- our name is Legion. Jesus has compassion on the man not Evil. He is Lord of the Storm- Peace Be Still, Lord of Death-Jairus Daughter- Lord of Demons- power over this man Jesus is just and righteous- The sanity and wholeness of this man was better than what happened to these demons.

Clothed And In His Right Mind Look at change of this man and you see the who Jesus is like he told those in the synagogue- Luke 4:18,19- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. The man wants to come with Jesus. Do not leave me here. If I am by myself I might go back to who I was- Jesus tells him- Return and tell your family how much God has done for you. His transformation would be obvious to all. What a living example of who Jesus is. Jesus travelled across the lake to heal this demon possessed man- then leaves. He came to seek and save the lost. If we were stripped naked spiritually how would we appear to others? We all have our battle scars- Only healed because of our Savior.

Jesus Heals All Today Who Will Come- Mt. 11:28 John 14:6- No man comes to the Father but by Jesus. He is on the lookout for those who are overlooked and marginalized by others. Jesus chose this opportunity to do this for a reason. These are written that you might believe (John 20:30,31- And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name Jesus takes a man in misery- down as far as he could go- forsaken by everyone- hopeless and he makes him whole again. He can do the same for you- if you will come to Him and be obedient to His will. There is no challenge too great for you and He to overcome. Come having faith upon hearing of Him and repent of your sins, confess Him as Savior and be baptized and wash those wicked sins away and then be a walking example and vocal advocate to others of who you belong to.
