Presentation transcript:

How can you make work easier on yourself? Without getting someone to do it for you.

Using a machine does not mean less work is done. It just changes the way the work is done.

Six Types of Simple Machines

Simple machines require a person to supply an effort.

Many of the simple machines we look at will involve raising something off the ground. Pulleys

Inclined Planes (Ramps)

Levers The pivot point of a lever is called the fulcrum.

Work input is what the person has to do. Two types of work are considered in analyzing simple machines. Work input is what the person has to do. Work output is what is accomplished.

Work = Fd Work Input = Fede Fe is the force of effort for the person. de is the distance of effort for the person.

Work Output Work Output is what the person would have done without the machine. When a person lifts an object without a machine, the force needed is the weight.

Work Output = Frdr Weight is called the force of resistance (Fr). The height an object is raised is called the distance of resistance (dr). Work Output = Frdr
