Vincent Van Gogh: Starry Night Van Gogh was being kept in an asylum over the period of time which he created this piece (he finished in 1889). With the fact that Van Gogh has created numerous “Starry Night” paintings, this could simply have been his favorite subject matter to use while expressing new styles of painting, showing off his own artistic talent, passing time as an asylum patient, or a combination of the three.

Edvard Munch: The Scream Four versions created between 1893-1910. Apparently depicts a surreal, moving experience the artist had with nature.

Johannes Vermeer: The Girl With The Pearl Earring No clear date as to when this was finished. No clear intention was made in creating this work of art. Although it was determined that it is most likely not a portrait of a specific individual.
