I WRITING ABSTRACT

I Analysis of rewritten abstract The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the organizational level and quality of the services of the public transport in Belgrade, shown through the identified quality indicators and their trends. First year students from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences for three consecutive years have been conducting this research as practical implementation of the course Production Systems. The method used in this research for gathering data is the method or current observations. As we have indicated in the paper, there are trends of quality indicators that are not good and should be changed in order to improve the current situation. The aim of this research was to provide useful suggestions for future improvements and to show how students’ research can bring good benefits for numerous organizations, and in this particular case, for the organizations that provide public transportation services in Belgrade.

First year students from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences for three consecutive years have been conducting this research as practical implementation of the course Production Systems.

The method used in this research for gathering data is the method of current observations. We used the method of current observations to gather data for this research.

As we have indicated in the paper, there are trends of quality indicators that are not good and should be changed in order to improve the current situation. We indicate that poor trends of quality indicators should be changed to improve the current situation.

The aim of this research was to provide useful suggestions for future improvements and to show how students’ research can bring good benefits for numerous organizations, and in this particular case, for the organizations that provide public transportation services in Belgrade. This research suggests improvements and indicates how numerous organizations, and particularly Belgrade public transport providers, can benefit from students’ research.

Ii READING HANDOUT

Iii SPEAKING PRESENTATIONS

Academic presentations Types: Conference / seminar presentations, final paper defense, group presentations, etc. Purpose: To present your research, to summarize literature, to present a project, to report progress, etc.

Academic presentations RULE 1: Content is the most important part of your presentation. RULE 2: The visuals should enhance not detract from your presentation.

Academic presentation outline FRONT PAGE INTRODUCTION MAIN BODY CONCLUSION

FRONT PAGE Title/author/affiliation/e-mail address (1 slide). STATE THE MAIN ISSUE I Similar to the first few paragraphs of the paper’s introduction. For an applied talk describe the data and scientific objectives. For a theoretical talk describe the problem and limitations of current approaches.

INTRODUCTION Outline (1 slide). Background information (1-2 slide) Motivation (1-2 slides). Tell them what you are going to tell them Your introduction will need to create an immediate impression and gain the attention of the audience. Therefore, it is very important to be clear about what message you are trying to relay from the outset.

MAIN BODY V Methodology (3-4 slides). VI Results / key findings (2-3 slides). DEVELOP YOUR VIEWPOINT WITH SPECIFICS VI Present the key results of a simulation study or data analysis. Do not superficially cover all results; cover key results well.

CONCLUSION VII Summary (1 slide). VIII Future Work (0-1 slides) Tell them what you just told them End with a clear summary and/or a last statement or request AND HANDLE ANY QUESTIONS VIII Optionally give problems this research opens up The conclusion is as equally important as the introduction and should not be rushed. Common pitfalls are running out of time, speeding up, mumbling and fading off, or ending abruptly. If the ending is weak it will affect what the audience think of the overall presentation.

WHEN PREPARING A PRESENTATION… CONCLUSION INTRODUCTION MAIN BODY Work backwards from your overall conclusions to ensure all concluding statements are supported throughout the presentation. Expand each of your key points in order that the concluding statements are justified.

AFTER A PRESENTATION…q&A SESSION - Anticipate questions and be prepared to respond to them - Repeat questions, or ask for the question to be repeated, if you need time to think of the appropriate response. “This wasn’t something that I looked at … but I could find the information and get back to you if you want to speak to me after the presentation or leave your contact details”. “I did not cover that area“ “For this presentation, I had to relate X to Y, but if you feel Z is an area I need to look at, I will do so in the future”

Gathering data for research online vs. print know available tools, how to use them and how to evaluate results obtained

Web vs. print – pros and cons Anyone on the Web can access and publish Lengthy and complex publication process Publication info tampered with, as well as outside sources, citations, author affiliation Clearly indicated publication info Abundance of information easy to search through Laborious search work

Visible vs. invisible web visible web – information available through search engines invisible web search a term in Google, Google scholar and jstor.org what is the difference between the data obtained?

Evaluating search results Domain name extensions anyone can register .com, .net, .org domain names .edu and .gov can only be used by educational institutions and governmental institutions Academic journals online are nearly always peer reviewed. Websites known as authorities or well-known periodicals.

Wikipedia? Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free-content encyclopedia project supported by the Wikimedia Foundation and based on a model of openly editable content.

Before you begin What credible organizations might have done research into your topic? What would make someone qualified to speak on your topic?
