Form of oral communication Is participative Formal and structured presentation of a message Usage of Visual Aids Brings about the desired change in Understandings It can be flexible, complex and varied.

It can be achieved by using 4P’s : [I] PLANNING [II] PREPARE [III] PRACTICE [IV] PERFORMANCE

10 PLANNING the Presentation
Reason for Planning : a) know the audience b) stimulate the interest of the audience c) sensitive to the needs and expectations of the audience d) know his/her purpose e) analyze the occasion f) fit the material to the time g) select and narrow topics

11 Planning Involves : Define a Purpose : General and Specific
Analyze the Audience: a) Identifying audience characteristics b) Needs and Expectations Analyze the Occasion a) Understand the nature of event b) Communicative situation

12 Choose a suitable Title
a) Gives audience the first glimpse b) Form impression c) Conveys essence of the message d) Process of choosing title – (i) Identifying a topic (ii) Narrowed down as per the focus of the presentation

13 PREPARING the Presentation
Reason for Preparing : a) deal with speech anxiety effectively b) develop the required confidence c) seek precise and relevant examples and illustrations d) check for accuracy, redundancies and clichés

14 Preparing Involves Developing the Central Idea
a) restates presentation topics b) simple audience-oriented c) one-sentence summary d) focuses on the content of the speech e) uses specific language

15 Develop the Main Ideas a) Logical divisions of the central idea b) Establishing reasons for the central idea being true c) Supporting the central idea with a series of steps Gather Supporting Material a) Relevant and supporting information b) Systematic approach: Collection, Listing, Sorting and Revising Style of Presentation should be Informal

Reemphasize the Central Idea Focus on a goal Motivate the audience to respond Provide closure

20 PRACTICING the Presentation
Practice, practice, practice Get feedback, and use it. Be ruthless - delete unnecessary information Planned systematically Improving delivery-Memorising, Reading and Outlining

21 Handling Stage fright :
a) Concentrate on 3P’s b) Set Realistic goals c) Avoid Negative thoughts d) Begin the presentation with a Pause e) Speak Slowly, Clearly and Loudly f) Learn and Practice Stress Reduction Techniques

22 PERFORMANCE Start with Confidence Be Organized Stay Relaxed
Pay attention to Body language Use appropriate Visual Aids Pay attention to all Details Welcome Queries from the audience Close in a Memorable Way

23 DO'S AND DON'TS DO:  Lots of background research. Practice your presentation. Use note cards. Speak clearly. Have eye contact with your audience.  Use clear overhead transparencies, or slides (large font size, use of bullet points etc.). Be organized - prepare in plenty of time.  Structure your presentation.  Focus on the question set.  Obtain material from a wide range of sources. 

24 DON’T’S Leave research and preparation until the last minute.  Rely on one source of information.  Make it up.  Have no notes to rely on if you get stuck.  Worry too much - it's not as bad as it seems.  Mumble.  Read from a script.  Rush the presentation by speaking too fast.  Go over the time allotted for the presentation
