The River Flora Science 4 Lesson 1

In rivers and streams there are many different plants which provide shelter and food for animals. Plants also add oxygen to water.  

Some plants such as… white poplar alder weeping willow bamboo grow along rivers.

There are also plants like… bulrush reed papyrus that emerge from water.

Other plants such as lotus flower water lily blue water lily water hyacinth

water lettuce water chestnut float on the water surface. Some of these aquatic plants have spreading rhizomes and roots that anchor the plant deep in the mud of the river bed.
