What trade route is this and how can you tell? Give 3 reasons. Based on the map, how was Madagascar settled? Think simple!

Trade Between 600-1450

The Silk Road Most profitable and productive when large and powerful states were around Provide security for merchants and travelers 7th and 8th Centuries Byzantine, Abbasid, and Tang created an almost continuous belt of strong empires 13th and 14th Centuries The Mongols

The BIG Idea As civilizations became larger and more complex in the post classical era, so did the trade routes Rising prosperity of Asian, European, and African states expanded trade Increased demand for luxury goods Technological and intellectual improvements Sailing technology in the Indian Ocean Larger ships = more goods moved for less money Better caravan organization in the TSCR Up to 5,000 in one caravan

You will create ads for the Indian Ocean and Trans-Sahara post classical trade routes. Think about it like you are trying to get merchants to use your trade route to transport goods. The idea is to create a coherent, not just a bunch of info thrown together on a page. You must include the following (all info MUST be from Period 3): A slogan that “sells” the trade route The general type of goods traded back and forth (luxury, everyday, necessities – these are the three choices but try to get the best fit) as well as some specific goods traded Give some clue as to why these trade routes have expanded in the post classical era. Some major cities on the trade routes At least one cultural trait/idea that has been passed along the route At least one technological advance that made expanded travel possible Images and text that relate to the trade route
