Regional Transportation Management Center Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) MnDOT Metro Freeway Operations MnDOT Metro Signal Operations MnDOT Metro Maintenance Dispatch State Patrol Dispatch 400 miles of freeway management system Cameras & Traffic Sensors Changeable Message Signs FIRST Program 511 Traveler Information Active Traffic Management MnPASS Express Lanes KBEM Traffic Radio The RTMC is Minnesota’s second generation center. It opened in June 2003. Shared operations has allowed for better communications and coordination between agencies. Freeway management system covers 100% of metro area freeways. Extensive ITS infrastructure including cameras, DMS, and ramp meters help manage traffic incidents and reduce congestion on Twin Cities Metro Freeways. Mn/DOT has been a leader in ITS deployment and continues to move forward with new advances in congestion pricing and advanced traffic management systems to help manage congestion and incidents.

Freeway Incident Response Safety Team (FIRST) FIRST is the brand name of MnDOT’s Freeway Service Patrol MnDOT Owned & Operated Thirteen 3/4 – ton Pickup Trucks 19 Drivers, 2 Supervisors Program Costs: $1.6 million annually 2004 Evaluation Report found a benefit cost ratio of 15.8 to 1. Reduction in congestion and secondary crashes 11/18/2018
