Making Connections (also known as Relating)

What does it mean to Make a Connection? Find something alike/similar between the story you have just read and other stories, characters, personal experiences, and the world around you.

Three Main Types of Connections Text-to-Self Text-to-Text Text-to-World

Steps to a Well Organized Connection Bring up the connection from the text. Make your connection. Comment on the similarities and differences between the text and your connection.

Let’s Make Connections! Koala Lou By Mem Fox

Mr. Ego’s Koala Lou Connection 1. Bring up the connection from the text 2. Make your connection On page #9 of the text entitled ‘Koala Lou’, Koala Lou is having a difficult time because her mother is giving her less attention since the arrival of her new brothers and sisters. When my son Nickolas was first born our oldest son Jackson struggled with having to share mom and dad with his new baby brother. Like Koala Lou, Jackson got upset at times and acted out. Unfortunately, Jackson often acted out in a negative way. He would try to hit his brother or throw his toys and books. On the other hand, Koala Lou decided she would strive to be the best at the gum tree climbing event in the Bush Olympics, which is a much more positive response to the situation. 3. Comment on similarities and differences between the text and your connection
