Developing guide’s for specific product types Carbonated Liquids The WG chair continues to work with a scientific metrologist from New Zealand who has been tasked with researching a suitable method for determining the density of carbonated beverages. With regards to developing a test method and guide for determining the density of a carbonated liquid I continue to work with a scientific metrologist from New Zealand who has been tasked with researching a suitable method.

Report on the work of OIML Technical Committee 6 (TC6) – Pre-packaged Products OIML 79 & OIML R87 Guide for Defining the System Requirements for a Certification System for Prepackages A 2nd Committee Draft was voted on in September 2016 Expected to be approved this year by CIML president Document Status Resolution CIML Meeting OIML 79 Labeling requirements for prepackages Approved 2015/14 50th CIML Meeting 22 October 2015   OIML R87 Quantity of product in prepackages 2016/18 51st CIML Meeting 21 October 2016 to update you on OIML 79 & OIML R87   Both documents have been revised and approved by the CIML following a meeting in Brazil, January 2016, where agreement was reached on the outstanding statistical issues. Both OIML R79 and R87 have now been approved. the remaining work package for TC6 is to develop a Guide for Defining the System Requirements for a Certification System for Prepackages’ The purpose of the document is to provide guidance to national authorities on the establishment and maintenance of certification schemes for the control of the quantity of product in prepackages and associated labeling. A 2nd Committee Draft was voted on in September 2016. The document is a guide, which are informative publications that give advice on “best practice”, which therefore only requires approval by the CIML president. I expect this document to receive approval in 2017. Ther has been no TC6 meetings proposed yet for this year

Action Points The action points for 2017 are: Update all Average Quantity Inspection training material to be in line with the newly revised and approved documents controlling package goods: OIML R79 - Labeling requirements for prepackage OIML R87 - Quantity of product in prepackages Circulate any updated version of the Guide document for ‘Defining the System Requirements for a Certification System for Prepackages’ to all members of the APLMF.   Continue to work with the scientific metrologist to establish a suitable method for determining the density of a carbonated beverage.
