Keyboarding Posture and Technique Review Implement proper posture and keyboarding techniques

Proper Posture and Technique Fingers in keying position are best described as curved Posture is important to successful keying; the body should be well back in the chair with the back fairly straight Wrists should be low, but not touching the frame of the keyboard Feet flat on the floor Elbows naturally by side Do not worry about correcting errors when working on building speed

Proper Posture and Technique--continued The best control of eyes on the reading copy (what you are typing from, not the keyboard and your fingers) The form and keying style that a typist uses while operating the keyboard is called technique The correct keystroke technique is to use quick, snappy strokes Place your fingers on the center of each key with the fingers slightly curved Strike keys firmly and release them quickly Correct keyboarding posture requires that the body be reasonably erect in front of the keyboard

Proper Posture and Technique--continued Quick down and in motion of the thumb The enter key is controlled by the right little finger; other fingers remain on the home row Use the appropriate pinky for each shift key Examine the keyboard carefully to form a mental picture of the layout. (You will memorize the entire keyboard.) When a person is keying copy, the hands and arms should remain relatively stationary as each key is struck In proper work area arrangement, the copy should be to the right of the monitor and keyboard
