POWERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY: Pass statutes (state laws) Collect taxes Create local governments Regulate trade in the state
Checks on Executive Branch -Approves the budget -Can impeach the governor & other officials -Can override vetoes with a ⅗ vote in both houses Checks on Judicial Branch -Can impeach judges -Can propose an amendment to the state constitution
RALEIGH CITY COUNCIL: Governing body of the city of Raleigh -Eight members elected for 2-year terms -Sets city policy, enacts laws & adopts the city budget each year
