Moving to Microsoft Azure Platform Today Server, Virtual Machine, Network, Storage, Database Assembly Required Patch, Service Release, New Version Custom, Inconsistent Plan for Peak Load Built to Avoid and Recover from Failure Infrastructure as a Service Automation Hardware maintained for you Operating system support Standardized On-demand scale Built to expect and withstand failure 11/15/2018

HADR / Backup Challenges Backups are costly Backups increase storage cost and require a plan for off-site safe keeping HADR / Backup Challenges Apps require high Service Level Agreement (SLA)’s Critical application depending on databases must have high service level agreements or objectives DR can double costs and effort Disaster Recovery to remote data center doubles your cost 11/15/2018

Engagement Overview Assess Analyze Deploy Foundation Deploy Scenario <Outline the objectives of the engagement that includes the current business and technical challenges as well as the scope. Below is some sample wording.> Perform an assessment of the current SQL Server environment in order to select one HADR strategy and one Backup strategy. Assess Provide guidance for envisioning, planning, and deploying a foundational SQL Server 2014 capability in Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines environment. Select a backup scenario and a high availability / disaster recovery scenario to deploy. Analyze Provide guidance on deploying Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Foundation in Microsoft Azure. This includes: Assisting in configuration of Microsoft Azure subscription related to this engagement. Providing guidance on configuration of virtual machines and virtual networking. Note: Setup and configuration of Microsoft Azure subscription and VPN are customer tasks. Deploy Foundation Provide guidance to deploying SQL Server 2014 HADR and backup scenarios utilizing Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines environment. Deploy Scenario

Scope In scope Out of scope Assess the existing SQL Server environment and processes. Provide guidance to deploy a SQL Server 2014 environment in Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines Select the optimal SQL Server HADR and Backup strategy (one each). Assistance with testing activities to validate fundamental capabilities. Informal knowledge transfer by having customer staff work alongside Microsoft. Out of scope Acquisition of Microsoft Azure subscription and virtual network configuration (should be completed one week prior to project start) Formal training Deploying any HADR/Backup scenario other than the agreed upon set of activities. Installation, configuration, or testing of non-Microsoft software. Migration of any other data to the solution Troubleshooting or remediation of existing databases. 11/15/2018
