Arrival Activity Welcome. We are so glad you are here. Please go to your assigned seat. Today’s worksheet is all ready for you. Greet the children as they arrive. Sometimes arrival can be hectic, so post the arrival instructions. Before beginning with the opening prayer, review the answers the children have written as a group.

Finding God, Grade 2, Session 3 Follow teaching notes on page 15 to introduce opening prayer. God is our Father

Opening prayer In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Dear Jesus, help me know and love God our Father as you do. Remember our parish intentions for this month: Let’s take a moment to feel calm and quietly at peace. Let’s pray together and ask God to help us learn about what he makes. Close your eyes and fold your hands.

Opening prayer Let’s pray for our own intentions for those who are ill or have died or are in need of special prayers and for things for which we are grateful. Children and catechists are invited to speak their intentions. We thank you God for this opportunity to be together. We ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we listen to today’s lesson. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Following opening prayer, distribute Session 1 pages from student text.

Vocabulary Petition: A request we make to God, asking for what we need since we know that he created us and wants to give us what we need. Praise: Our telling of the happiness we feel simply because God is so good. These are the new words we will learn about today.

God Cares for us Review teaching notes on pages 16 & 17 of teacher text to determine presentation of ideas.

Prayer Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Review notes on page 18 & 19 to determine how you will present the material. Suggestion: Use music CD and have children listen to the sung version of the Lord’s Prayer.

summary Thank you, Jesus, for teaching me to trust in God and to place my cares in his hands. Review notes on page 20 to determine how you will present the material.

Break One catechist takes children for bathroom break or drink of water. Second catechist sets up centers for next part of lesson.

Activity Centers Center 1: Review Center 2: Alphabet Bead Necklace Center 3: Review of the Tabernacle Eucharist The sacrament in which we give thanks to God for giving us Jesus Christ. Review Center: In text or on-line chapter assessment. Vocabulary cards: Reinforce vocabulary words for Sessions 1, 2, and 3. Center 2: Itsy Bitsy Lord’s Prayer Booklet Children will color (as much of the booklet as possible) and assemble a small prayer booklet. Center 3: Jesus’ Hands Help Others. Use the text on page 20 to reinforce the concept that Jesus helped others and we want to be like Jesus while doing this activity.

Prepare for departure Put teaching materials away. Straighten furniture, etc., if you are required to do so. Gather materials that students will take home with them. Focus children’s attention on the Prayer Center.

Closing Prayer

Sign of the Cross In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our Father Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Blessed are you among women, Hail Mary Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. And I detest all my sins because of your just punishment. But most of all because they offend you my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen

Sign of the Cross In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
