Presentation transcript:

Length Weight Time Capacity Measurement Compare units of measurement by expressing them in the same terms. Here are some common units of measurement: Length Weight Time Capacity 12 inches = 16 ounces = 60 seconds = 2 cups = 3 feet = 60 minutes = 2 pints = 24 hours = 4 quarts = Change the measurements to the same terms, write a ratio (simplify if possible). 1. 10 ounces to ½ pound 2. 18 inches to 1 yards 3. 45 minutes to 2 ½ hours 4. A recipe calls for 2 pints of juice to three quarts of soda. What is the ratio of juice to soda? 5. Susan is 5 ft 6 in tall. Mark is 6 ft 4 in tall. What is the ratio of Mark’s height to Susan’s height?

Recipes Proportions can be used to adjust a recipe. Note about decimals and fractions: When solving, if you change fractions to decimals to type into a calculator, remember to convert decimal answers back into fractions. Our customary measurements don’t use decimals! 6. A recipe that serves 6 people calls for ¼ teaspoon of black pepper. How much black pepper is needed for 48 servings? 7. If 1 ½ cups of rice will serve 6 people, how many people will 2 ½ cups serve? 8. Three pounds of cold cuts can serve 10 people. How many more pounds are needed to serve 15 people?
