Night test lighting introduction AEB VRU 2018 night testing The very latest 2018 AEB, FCW VRU testing protocol calls for testing in night-time conditions. The test is for the Vehicle Under Test (VUT) pedestrians (EPTa Adult/EPTc child), bicyclist and bike target (EBT) to be carried out according to lighting conditions that are set to extremely tight and strict tolerances. It will not be very easy to set this up. The challenge will be acquiring equipment that can not only provide lighting conditions to meet the luminance ratings, but in using a system that is capable of quickly and accurate aligning all 5 lamps to the specification. Moshon Data have worked very hard to put together a lighting solution that will not only meet the lighting specification for the night test, but will provide a system allowing you to accurately align everything up to the exacting tolerances meaning you don't have to. The following slides show the protocol, and how the MD lighting system can address the challenges we are facing to meet the protocol.

Overall test layout The Night-time test layout shown below: Lamps 5 m high

Light condition Moshon Data have: Lamp options R: Reference point geometric centre of the light field L: Centre line of the lamp (parallel to the pole) D: Lateral distance between the centre of the light field and the VUT path F: Free space between driving path of VUT and equipment H: Height of lamp C: Control line τ: Tilt of lamp α: Angle against ground and pole γ: Cross slope Moshon Data have: Lamp options Precision mast alignment solutions light meter measuring equipment

Light condition light meter measuring equipment Eh: horizontal illumination R: Reference point geometric centre of the light field P: maximal height over ground X: Position X α: Angle against ground light meter measuring equipment Konica-Minolta T-10A will ensure the required luminance, at the specified locations, are possible for the test.

Light condition Background illuminance The background illumination is an additive value to the streetlight illumination. Maximum of the background illumination on a test area during night shall be less than: < 1 lux Tests can be conducted at night to achieve this specification. Alternatively tests can be carried out during the day if you have a Night Environment Simulation Tunnel (NEST)

Orientation of lamp The orientation is the angle of lamp rotation to 0.1 deg. Exacting methods of alignment are required for each of the 5 lamps The Moshon Data lamp solution uses a laser alignment system allowing each of the 5 lamps to be perfectly aligned to each other A highly machined graticule bearing on a turnable mast ensures ease of lamp rotation and alignment to 0.1 deg

Longitudinal inclination of lamp This is the inclination of the lamp on the pole rotation to 0.5 deg. Each lamp head sits on a 90 degree spigot, accurately machined to make alignment tolerances better than 0.5 deg Freedom of movement will make accurate head and ground alignment to 90 deg Height can be fixed to 5 m height so that the lamp always goes up to the same height every time.

Lamp specification Defined lamp in the protocol: Adolf Schuch GmbH Eulumdat 47 2403 ABX CL 47_ABX Article No.: 47 2403 ABX CL Luminous flux (Luminaire): 5350 lm 109 lm/W Luminous flux (Lamps): 5350 lm Luminaire Wattage: 49.0 W Luminaire classification according to DIN: A20 CIE flux code: 38 73 96 100 102 Fitting: 1 x LED/740/ABX/DA (Correction Factor 1.000).

Light condition Illuminance at VUT (test vehicle) path The illuminance of VUT path ( ¯(I VUT) ) is defined as an average of illuminance measurement points along the VUT path, trajectory BB. BB = Axis of centreline of Vehicle under Test The average illuminance shall be in a range of: 19 lux ± 3 lux

Lighting test results VUT Path – specification 19 +/- 3 lux Zeta (orange) with the 02 lens in specification on three points (VUT2,3,4) Schuch (blue) within specification on 2 points (VUT4,6). Data validated by Thatcham UK – March 2018

Light condition Illuminance at EPT (Euro NCAP Pedestrian Target The illuminance along the EPT path, trajectory EE shall be at least > 5 lux EE = Axis of centreline of pedestrian dummy

Lighting test results EPT Path – specification > 5 lux All are in specification
