PRONOUNCEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING HAS, IN LINE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACT, 1997 (ACT 101 OF 1997), DECLARED THAT THE LAST ENROLMENT DATE FOR FIRST TIME ENTERING STUDENTS INTO ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES THAT ARE NOT ALIGNED TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS SUB- FRAMEWORK (HEQSF) IS 31 DECEMBER 2019 (GOVERNMENT NOTICE NO. R. 801 OF 2016, PUBLISHED IN THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE OF 06 JULY 2016).   THIS EFFECTIVELY MEANS THAT NO STUDENTS SHALL BE ENROLLED INTO ANY LEGACY QUALIFICATION AFTER 31 DECEMBER 2019

COMMUNITY SERVICE PLACEMENT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE PRACTITIONERS IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CONDITIONS OF SERVICE ARE ALSO DETERMINED BY THE EMPLOYER THE NURSING ACT IS UNDER REVIEW, PROPOSALS TO ADRESS THE CHALLENGES

PROCESS FOLLOWED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HEQSF ALIGNED NURSING QUALIFICATIONS THE NURSING PROFESSION WAS INVOLVED THROUGH WORKSHOPS (PROVINCIAL AND NATIONAL) SINCE 2005-NQF WITH 8 LEVELS ROADSHOWS IN 2010-NQF WITH 10 LEVELS ADOPTION OF THE FRAMEWORK IN JULY 2010 AT SANC COUNCIL CHAMBERS WHERE THERE WAS REPRESENTATION FROM SERVICE, NURSING EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, LABOUR

METHODOLOGY USED TOWARDS IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW NURSING QUALIFICATIONS COMPETENCY FRAMEWORKS WERE DEVELOPED FOR VARIOUS CATEGORIES SCOPES OF PRACTICE REGULATIONS REGULATIONS ACCREDITATION CRITERIA (ACCREDITATION POLICY AND PROCEDURE) QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORKS

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO THE NEW QUALIFICATIONS IN ORDER TO BE ADMITTED TO THE NEW NURSING QUALIFICATION(S), A PERSON MUST BE IN POSSESSION OF AT LEAST A NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE AS ISSUED BY UMALUSI WITH THE RELEVANT SUBJECT COMBINATION OR AN EQUIVALENT INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATION WHICH ALLOWS HIM/HER ACCESS TO A HIGHER CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA /DEGREE QUALIFICATION DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF QUALIFICATION ONE INTENDS TO PURSUE. ALL NEIs (PUBLIC/PRIVATE) MUST BE REGISTERED AS HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN ORDER TO OFFER THE NEW NURSING QUALIFICATIONS RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING NB. PRE NURSING NOT A REQUIREMENT
