NWS Anchorage Overview One of three offices in Alaska tasked with: 850,000 mi² marine responsibilities 185,000 mi² public (land) responsibilities 17 Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts Alaskan waters sea ice analysis and forecasting Note the relative size of the area covered by 3 WFOs in Alaska. Compare with other CWAs in lower 48 states.

NWS Anchorage Issue warnings of hazardous events, weather forecasts, and climate information Provide expert information to Emergency Managers and other public sector officials Build and maintain relationships with local and state governments and the media Solicit customer feedback on products and services Conduct community awareness and education programs Note the relative size of the area covered by 3 WFOs in Alaska. Compare with other CWAs in lower 48 states.

Marine Weather and Coastal Services •Forecast and warning services for the Arctic, North Pacific, Bering Sea, and Gulf of Alaska waters •Coastal storm surge forecasts and warnings •Spot support for HAZMAT and SAR •Direct contact with mariners for delivery of critical information and collection of volunteer observations Note the relative size of the area covered by 3 WFOs in Alaska. Compare with other CWAs in lower 48 states.

Sea Ice Services • Sea ice analysis and forecast focused on Alaska waters • High resolution, local scale for tactical decisions • Delivery meets user requirements •GIS enabled •Low-bandwidth for MarineFax • Fully integrate sea ice into coastal and marine services • Stakeholders: subsistence hunters to ice breakers Note the relative size of the area covered by 3 WFOs in Alaska. Compare with other CWAs in lower 48 states.
