Contour Lines and Elevation Rules to Remember!!!!

Contour Lines Never Cross. Rule # 1 Contour Lines Never Cross.

Rule # 2 Contour Lines Never End.

Rule # 3 Contour Lines Always increase or decrease by the same elevation on a map. This is called a contour interval

Rule # 4 When contour lines cross a river the “V” always points upstream.

Rule # 5 A Contour line shows the elevation above sea level.

Rule # 6 Contour lines that are evenly spaced and far apart indicate a gradual slope. Contour lines that are close together indicate a steep slope.
