WALT: What have we learnt about Settlements and Weather? STARTER: How many geographical words can you make out of todays WALT?

WALT: What have we learnt about Weather and Settlements? WILF: L4 – Describe a type of settlement and the weather. L5 – Explain some of the factors. L6 – Compare types of settlement and the weather.

KEY WORDS Settlements – Linear, Dispersed, Nucleated. Settlement Hierarchy – Hamlet, Village, Town, City. Settlement Functions – Port, Industrial, Resort, Market. Settlement change and growth – CBD Climate Temperate – Temperature, Wind direction. Weather – Rainfall (relief, convectional).

As a Table – Decide what type of settlement you are creating, whereabouts is it, what is the weather like, what is the purpose of the Settlement? How has the settlement changed over time? What is the weather like and why ? What weather symbols can you use? TASK: Key Words – Weather // Climate // Prevailing Winds // Temperature // Altitude // Latitude // Wind direction // Equator

THINK, PAIR, SHARE This image shows the altitude of the UK. Q - Where is it most mountainous? The altitude affects the average temperature.

Numbered Heads Together… When I say go. Discuss the following question. This image shows drought (a severe lack of rainfall) threat in the UK. How would you describe the conditions in the South East of England? What does this mean for the West of England?

Tell the person next to you three things that you have revised today.
