THE TREASURES OF THE DATOURWAY AREA The Danube Delta is the richest biodiversity area in Europe. The unique natural asset of the DATOURWAY Area is under- used / highly vulnerable and under growing pressure!

TERRITORIAL DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION Total area of six countries: 182,265 km 2 Population: 20,409,44 Over one third of the population lives in Romania, one quarter in Hungary, the other four countries share the other 5/12

TRANSPORT NETWORK: ROADS Road network: acceptable coverage Scarcity of motorway access at south-east of Hungary Quality issues of national, regional roads: poor quality - maintenance, repair needed

TRANSPORT NETWORK River transport The Danube is underused by passenger traffic in spite of the potentials Cycle routes The cycling path along the Danube is part of the EuroVelo network.

TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE Water supply Gap – in the south east section Sewage system Backwardness in the waste water treatment

CONFLICTS Ecological quality of the river and the industrialized zones Risk of flood Uncontrolled and undisciplined tourism Entrepreneurial skills and practice are missing in the peripheral areas Serious limitation in language skills as well as skills in modern hospitality including communication and creativity Tourism related infrastructure is not satisfactory Standard problems Deficiencies in river based tourism (paddling, canoeing and yachting)
